The Black Mask Rule
At the end of a one-syllable word: use ck after a keyword vowel; use k after a consonant.

CH vs TCH (same sound)
At a word’s end, use tch after a keyword vowel and ch after a consonant.

Four “rebel” words keep ch: such, much, rich, and which.
Vowel pattern
Silent E changes the vowel.
Silent e makes no sound of its own. It reaches back over one tile and helps the earlier vowel say its name.
The Silent E tile gets no tap while reading.

With Silent E, U can say its name—“you”, as in cube—or its cousin sound—“oo”, as in rule.
